Babul Akter seeks security in jail saying Feni OC raided his cell

Former superintendent of police Babul Akter on Monday appealed to the court to ensure his security in jail, saying that Feni Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin raided his cell.

The raid was allegedly on Saturday, two days after he brought charges of custodial torture against Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar and five others, according to his lawyer Golam Mawla Murad. 

"It is astonishing that a police officer entered the jail and raided the cell of a prisoner. Nothing was found in the raid. This is being done to keep him [Babul Akter] under mental pressure," he told The Business Standard (TBS). 

Babul Akter has applied for security under section 11 of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act to Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Begum Jebunnessa's court. 

Plaintiff's lawyer Golam Mawla said the court will give an order in this regard soon.

On 8 September, Babul Akter appealed to file a case, claiming he was tortured in the PBI custody. 

The court recorded the case as a complaint and set September 19 for an order on the matter.

The accused in the case are PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumder, Chattogram district unit SP Nazmul Hasan, Chattogram metro unit SP Naima Sultana, PBI former inspectors Santosh Kumar Chakma and AKM Mohiuddin Salim, and inspector Kazi Enayet Kabir.

Babul Akter's lawyer Kofil Uddin said that during 10-17 May last year, Babul was tortured at the PBI Chattogram Metro and District Office.

"Babul Akter was subjected to inhuman torture to extract a false confession in the case of his wife's murder," he said.

On 5 June 2016, Babul Akter's wife Mahmuda was shot and hacked to death by miscreants in the GEC intersection area of Chattogram city. Babul Akter was sent to jail in a case filed for the murder.
