Seven brickfields were penalised Tk13 lakh yesterday (6 January) in Khulna's Dumuria upazila for operating their businesses without following the direction of the higher court.

A mobile court initiated by the Department of Environment (DoE) took administrative action against the law violators from morning to evening.
DoE Executive Magistrate Momtaz Begum and Asadur Rahman conducted the mobile court.
Magistrate Momtaz Begum told the local journalists that many of the brickfields were established in the Kharnia and Solagatia areas after grabbing the reclaimed lands in the Bhadra and Hari rivers.
The brickfields have been functioning illegally for a long time.
DoE Assistant Director Parvej Ahmed, Inspector Maruf Billah and members of the enforcement team, police and fire brigade extended support to the mobile team.
