DNCC removes 1,100 illegal signboards, billboards from capital
The removed billboards were sold at Tk61,937 on auction
The Dhaka North City Corporation removed 1,155 illegal signboards and billboards on Tuesday, the third day since the removal campaign was launched in the capital's Uttara area.
Later, the removed billboards were sold at Tk61,937 on auction, read a press release today.
Some 150 billboards were removed from the Azampur area of Uttara under the supervision of Zone-8 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Abed Ali. The removed signboards and billboards were sold on auction at Tk23,062. The court also imposed Tk32,000 as fines against various companies for illegally occupying roads and sidewalks and obstructing the movement of people.
Zone-6 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Sazia Afrin led a mobile court in the Shah Makhdum Avenue area. More than 100 billboards were removed and sold on auction at Tk9,000. Besides, the court filed 18 cases during the drive and fined Tk1,20,000.
Some 300 billboards were removed and sold on auction at Tk5,000 during a removal drive carried out in the areas adjacent to Mascot Plaza under the supervision of Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Abdul Hamid Miah. Besides, the court filed 5 cases on charges of doing business without a trade licence, fake licence and other offences. The accused were fined Tk 5,75,000 in the cases.
Zulkar Nion, Zone-1 regional executive officer and executive magistrate, led a drive in Khilkhet, Nikunja and Kuril areas in the capital. During the drive, some 350 illegal billboards were removed and sold on auction at Tk16,875. Besides, Tk98,500 was collected as fines in 16 cases by the mobile court.
Meanwhile, about 250 illegal signboards and billboards were removed from sector 3,5, and 7 of Uttara under the supervision of Zone-7 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed. The court also fined Tk1,65,000 in six cases. The removed billboards were sold on auction at Tk8,000.
